THE MONTESSORI PROGRAM
EARLY CHILDHOOD : 1 TO 6 YEARS
Fostering Independence
The EMC Montessori Program provides a unique and enriching educational experience for young learners. The curriculum is designed to embrace and apply the Montessori philosophy, promoting independence, curiosity, and a love for lifelong learning. Here is an overview of the Montessori Curriculum:
Practical Life Skills: The foundation of the curriculum lies in developing practical life skills. Through purposeful activities such as pouring, buttoning, sweeping, and more, pupils gain independence, fine motor skills, and a sense of responsibility for themselves and their environment.
Sensorial Exploration: Nurturing the senses is a gateway to understanding the world. The sensorial activities engage pupils’ senses of sight, touch, sound, taste, and smell, helping them refine their perception, develop cognitive skills, and make meaningful connections.
Language and Literacy: The language curriculum focuses on building a strong foundation in literacy. Through phonetic-based materials, storytelling, reading, and writing activities, pupils develop their reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, and writing skills, fostering effective communication and self-expression.
Mathematics: The mathematics curriculum guides pupils towards a solid understanding of mathematical concepts. Through hands-on manipulatives and activities, pupils explore number sense, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, geometry, and problem-solving, developing critical thinking and logical reasoning abilities.
Cultural Studies: The cultural studies curriculum encompasses geography, history, science, art, music, and more. Pupils explore different cultures, their traditions, and the natural world around them. They engage in hands-on experiments, creative projects, and global awareness activities, fostering a sense of respect, diversity, and curiosity.
Individualised Learning: Montessori education recognizes that each child learns at their own pace and has unique interests and strengths. The curriculum is tailored to meet individual needs, allowing pupils to progress through the materials and concepts at their own pace, fostering a love for learning and a sense of accomplishment.
Guided Discovery: The teachers act as guides, observing each child’s progress, providing individualised support, and encouraging self-directed learning. They foster a nurturing and respectful environment that promotes exploration, collaboration, and independence.
Parent Engagement: Partnership between school and parents is key to the success of our pupils. Parents are involved through regular communication, workshops, and events, enabling them to actively participate in their child's education and reinforce Montessori principles at home.
The Montessori Program at EMC is subdivided into two unique learning environments:
-
Toddler Community: 1 to 3 years
-
Primary Community (Children’s House): 3 to 6 years
EMC is dedicated to providing a comprehensive and holistic Montessori curriculum that nurtures the whole child's development. Through hands-on exploration, independent learning, and a supportive community, EMC strives to inspire a lifelong love for learning and empower our pupils to reach their fullest potential.
