Lower Secondary Science plays a vital role in developing pupils’ scientific knowledge, investigative skills, and critical thinking abilities. The curriculum is designed to ignite curiosity, encourage exploration, and foster a deep understanding of the natural world, preparing pupils for further studies and real-world applications. Pupils study the three core disciplines of Science: biology, chemistry, and physics. The curriculum focuses on the following key areas:

Biology: Pupils explore the living world, including topics such as cells, organs, systems, reproduction, genetics, evolution, and ecosystems. Pupils learn about plant and animal structures, functions, and adaptations. Pupils develop an understanding of biological processes, biodiversity, and the impact of human activity on the environment.

Chemistry: Pupils delve into the properties, composition, and changes of matter. They learn about elements, compounds, mixtures, atoms, the periodic table, and chemical reactions. Pupils explore concepts such as acids and bases, states of matter, energy changes, and the conservation of mass.

Physics: Pupils investigate the fundamental principles governing the physical world. They explore topics such as forces, motion, energy, sound, light, electricity, magnetism, and space. Pupils develop an understanding of key scientific laws and principles and apply them to real-world contexts.

Scientific Inquiry and Investigation: Throughout the curriculum, pupils engage in practical activities and experiments, developing their scientific inquiry and investigative skills. They learn to plan and carry out experiments, make observations, collect and analyse data, and draw conclusions. Pupils also develop their skills in evaluating evidence and communicating their findings effectively.

Scientific Literacy and Communication: Lower Secondary Science aims to develop students' scientific literacy, enabling them to critically evaluate scientific information and communicate their understanding. Pupils enhance their skills in reading scientific texts, interpreting data, and presenting their ideas clearly and logically.
