THE PROGRESSIVE PROGRAM

UPPER SECONDARY: 14 TO 19 YEARS

IGCSE Physics

Exam Board: Pearson Edexcel

Physics, as one of the natural sciences, explores the universe at both macro and micro levels. From distant galaxies to subatomic particles, it encompasses a wide range of phenomena.

Based on observation and experimentation, Physics aims to comprehend the finely-tuned nature of our universe, allowing life to exist. It investigates the interplay between space and time, employing formulas to define physical quantities and uncovering the fundamental laws that govern the universe. The applications of Physics range from space exploration with SpaceX to particle research at the CERN Hadron Collider. Moreover, Physics provides essential concepts for the study of Biology and Chemistry.

The course is organised into four main areas of study, with chapters and lessons within each area:

  • Energy and Energy Resources: Conservation, dissipation, transfer, and resources.

  • Particles at Work: Electric circuits, home electricity, molecules, matter, and radioactivity.

  • Forces in Action: Balanced forces, motion, force relationships, and pressure.

  • Waves, Electromagnetism, and Space: Wave properties, electromagnetic waves, light, electromagnetism, and space.

IGCSE Physics is particularly attractive to individuals who possess a natural inquisitiveness regarding the fundamental mechanisms governing the world and a keen interest in comprehending the physical environment surrounding us.

To excel in this scientific discipline, a positive and proactive mindset, coupled with the ability to study autonomously and confront intricate concepts, is indispensable. Proficiency in mathematics, especially in manipulating and interpreting equations, proves beneficial in unravelling the complexities of Physics. Furthermore, fostering effective written communication skills using scientific terminology is of utmost importance, and such aptitude will be progressively nurtured throughout the course.
